Pregnancy After Stent?
I have a beautiful 4 year old daughter and have been told so many times over this 3 year saga that I SHOULD NOT have any more children. I just have that unimaginable desire to add to our family. I didn't know if any of you have had children after being stented or knew of anyone who has. My whole thing is I know they can't say oh go ahead there will be no risks, but I just can't imagine that it is impossible.

RE: Pregnancy After Stent?
I was also told by each one of my specialists (4 different docs to be exact) that having another child would put me at a very high risk, and was not a wise decision. Pregnancy in and of itself is a clotting factor, and I have already had 2 clots. I am on warfarin for life and warfarin cannot be taken while pregnant. My daughter is also 4 and I feel very fortunate to have had a normal healthy pregnancy BEFORE MTS came into my life 2 years ago. My husband and I would love a 2nd child but at this point I am not willing to risk having my daughter growing up without her mother. Being 31, I feel blessed to have a healthy child already but it also makes me sad that she will have to grow up an only child because of MTS.

RE: Pregnancy After Stent?
This really took me by suprise because I have never heard that ever. Well maybe the simple reason for that is because I am only 14 and I don't even know if I want to have kids. Wow that sucks if it is true! Oh Well there are plenty of children that need to be adopted out there. much love Jassmin <3

RE: Pregnancy After Stent?
During my hospital stay when the surgeon was talking to the residents in front of me but talking about me as though I was not there they discussed pregnancy and MTS a little bit. The coumadin can travel across the placenta which may cause birth defects but there is an injection that one can give themselves twice a day (I have forgotten the name) to keep the blood thin and not jepordize the baby. The stent never came up during their chat although my surgeon was very hesitant to put it in. I wish I had been better able to understand most of what he said but I was on a lot of drugs. I do recall they woke me up from surgery to tell me it was a must and have me sign that it was ok.
I think your vascular surgeon would be the best person to talk to about it. Mine has been the leader in all things relating to my MTS and treatment. |

RE: Pregnancy After Stent?
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I have had a stent in my left iliac vein since May of '08 because of MTS and I am currently in my 7th month of pregnancy with no problems so far. I take a baby aspirin daily, wear compression hose, and have follow up ultrasounds with my vascular surgeon every 6 weeks to check the stent. I am nervous now that I am at the end of the pregnancy. This is when the baby can put pressure on the stent. I was told that if this occurs I will have to replace the aspirin with lovenox shots daily and so far that is all they have said. I plan on asking more detailed questions at my next visit on 8/3.

RE: Pregnancy After Stent?
Carrie,
Happy to hear things are going great and I am sure everything will be fine : ) My surgeon told me pretty much the same thing. I am 26 but were planning to have a family soon. He told me that I would be considered a high-risk pregnancy and need to see a perinotologist, OBGYN and him all simultaneously. He said that at 14 weeks is when the baby can put most pressure on the stent but that's why close monitoring is crucial. He said I am on baby aspirin for life so that wouldn't stop throughout pregnancy but if need be, I would get on heparin or lovanox throughout the last tri-mester. |

RE: Pregnancy After Stent?
Hi everyone! I am now in my ninth month and all is well. I am still taking the baby aspirin daily and the baby has not placed any pressure on the stint which is amazing because he is already measuring at 8 lbs per the ultrasound. My legs have been swelling and the left leg is of course still slightly larger than the right but the swelling is no more than what your average pregnancy causes(its actually better with this pregnancy since I have the stint, it was worse with my previous 2 pregnancies when I was unaware that my iliac vein was only 3 mm) I will be delivering by c-section next week and have been told that I will be placed on lovenox after the delivery for a short time just for precaution. Ill let you know how it goes.
I hope everyone is doing well!
