I have been on Coumadin for a little over 2 months now. I have my INR checked weekly and it seems to be all over the place. It has been as low as 1.7 and as high as 3.7. I am very careful about what I eat, avoiding the high Vit K foods because I do not care to eat a daily dose of them. So far no real noticable Coumadin side effects. I have been taking a supplement called Biotin as I read some people experience hair loss on Coumadin.
Keep my INR at 2.0, but it has been as low as 1.6, I avoid Vitamin K, no issues consuming anything that might enhance Warfarin. Take Vit E and baby aspirin, both of them enhance Warfarin, I refuse to take more than 5mg daily.
I would just say keep everything consistent. Coumadin interacts with so many different drugs, dietary supplements and foods that the littlest thing can alter your INR. And make sure if you decide to start taking any OTCs or herbal supplements that you consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Hey Jackied, I have a Hematologist, we work together on keeping my INR at 2 with the lowest dose of Warfarin. Therefore I can take Warfarin enhancing alternatives. I refuse to take more than 5mg and I am not concerned when my INR goes below 2 (usually between 1.5 and 2). It has been more than one year since my DVT/PE and I discussed the Prevent study with my Doctor.

I really do not have to consult anyone, do my own INR and see my Doctor every 6 months.
I am not on coumadin....only the first year. After that I've been on my own using supplements to keep my blood thin.... and it seems to be working as any little cut or scrap bleeds... and sometimes bleeds some more.
I had my DVT ten years ago and am not concerned about a repeat clot though I know that there is increased risk. So far...so good!
Please know that I am not suggesting anyone go off.... just to know that it is not a given.

I'm looking into coumadin alternatives like Arixtra. due to absorption issues, my INRs can vary from 1.2 to a high of 8 while on coumadin. so, long term, it's not an effective treatment.
Coumadin Coumadin Coumadin, That stinky old Coumadin well I take 9 mgs of coumadin daily. My INR should be between 2.5 and 3. My INR is checked every 2 weeks.I have been on coumadin for 8 months so far and I have to be on it for another 2 months.Okay is this just me or what? When I was started on coumadin I had frequent headaches and my doctors told me my headaches had nothing to do with my coumadin.Oh yeah my hair has been totally messed up since I have started taking coumadin and I am so darn tired I am complaining and I don't like to complain but coumdain stinks!
I have been off and on Coumadine, ranging from 10 to 30 mgs per day for almost 19 months. My INR ranges from 0.9 to 2.9 week to week.
i have stents and a vena cava filter.
I was told Coundine was life time for me, but the FDA has a new drug that is due out any day that does not ravage the body.
My vascular surgeon is going to put me on it as soon as it is approved.
I have taken Arixtra, Lovanox, Heparin, Warfrin, Coumadine, Plavix and asprin. My INR has been 1.o on doses of Comadine of 30 mgs. I have had the stents, the vena cava filter and a thrombectemoy. I am taking all of the above and my inr Friday was 2.8, Monday 2.4 and Tuesday, 2.1.
I don't smoke, drink, take birth control or eat Vitamin K foods. Today, one week after stent surgery the left leg is filing with clots again. I have been having venus studies each week and pt/inr 2'x's per week.
Still no answer. This has been ongoing for 19 months since a Traumatic Brain Injury, 2 P.E.'s and 2 DVT's, one which started at the left ankle and ends in the abdomen. Now my hair is falling out and I am tired all of the time. Does anyone have a similiar experience? I am being to tire so much and I am a young, active 44 year old....
Wow all of that and your INR is just 1.0 ummm 30 mgs. of coumadin sounds DANGEROUS! I am 14 and am on 9 mgs. and people think that is high most average adults take at the most 4-5 mgs. of coumadin! I think you should find new doctors!
