My May Thurner diagnosis was during my hospital stay after being admitted through the ER. The doctor that diagnosed me and managed my care with the tpa and stent placement was an IR (Interventional Radiologist) Dr. Suryakumar Reddy. I am also being followed by a Hematologist and I follow up every six months with a Vascular Surgeon. I did not see a Hematologist until after clot #2. All 3 doctors have different opinions on my Coumadin therapy. The Hematologist and Vascular Surgeon advise I will most likely take it for life. My IR says 6 months of Coumadin and then switch back to Plavix. I have my weekly INR's done at my GP's office who monitors my Coumadin dosage.
I have both a Vascular Surgeon and a Hematologist. Both of them correspond with each other and they work well together.I only have a Hematologist because my Vascular Surgeon is not exactly certified to treat me I'm 14. My hematologist is at Pediatric Hospital and my Vascular Surgeon is at a regular hospital I must say that my Hematologist makes me feel less important because they have "more important patients' to deal with such as patiens with factor 5 and things. My Vascular Surgeon does not put me on the back burner and knows my condition very well.I'm not "dissing" my Hematologist though. lol much love <3 Jassmin
I have had 4 different Hemotolgists, a Neurologist, a Vascular Surgeon and now they are sending me to a Anti-Coagulation Specialist. All of the doctors have different opinions on my Coumadine, Lovanox, Heparin, and Plavix dosages. I have had stents, thrombectomy surgery and I still continue to have an INR from .9 to 2.0, but never any higher. That is with taking 25 mgs of Coumadine and 400 mgs of Lovanox and 75 mgs of Plavix and 81 mgs of baby aspirin. I wear the compression hose and have to use a cane. I think that an anti-coagulation doctor may be the best course, after you have the stent surgery. I don't know, that is my next path I am taking to find some answer. My left leg is full of clots again only one week after a 4 hour thrombectomy.....
